Hi everyone! I'm Melody I've been writing fanfics for four years and boy has it has it's ups and downs. That was a lot I had to learn (and I'm still learning). I wrote this blog entry to help out aspiring fanfic writers. it amazes me how many start each day and it saddens me alot of them give up as as they start, because they lack motivation (and guidance).
Here are a few tips ,that i wished I'dknown when I arrived on fanfiction.net.
#1 Don't give up (I know it'stough at first but keep trying.)
#2 Write for yourself (Do what makes you happy. there's no faster way to kill interest in a story if you're unhappy writing it.)
#3 Don't take it personally! (This goes out to future mangaka, artists, and comickers) -if someone hates your work-as long as you like it -does it matter?)
#4 Ask for help! (Positive criticism- can make your work a million times better.)
#5 Experiment-see what you like. Everything is not for everyone.
#6 Be organized!(I hear you groaning) -I used to hate being organized but it's very important. For ex. If you leave for a while and you are organized you'll be able to continue where you left off.
#7 Plot, plot, and plot! (I hear you groan again) I detested writing plots for the longest time but I promise you when you write a plot before writing a story. It'll make your story make more sense.
#8 Avoid emotionally-driven fics. (Unless it's a one-shot.) When I mean emotionally-driven just that and lacking a plot.
#9 Don't be afraid to fall if you wanna start over -start over. :D If you stumble it's okay. You always fall before you walk.
#10 Remember this is fanfiction-fiction! Of all things -it's not real. I pray you have life outside of this website, ifyou don't-that sucks beyond comprehension.
#11 One last thing- research-research! All the good stories are pretty convincing, right? It helps and you'll learn something new.
